I have started this site as a clearance house and active research centre for simulations of all kinds in the Humanities, especially history.

What are simulations and how can a teacher use them in a class-room setting? One way to approach this question is by following the link below. It is a presentation, in PowerPoint form, that I gave at the California Association of Independent Schools Conference in March 2007.

The basic gist is that simulations help students to learn things experientially, use many modes of learning, and when properly debriefed, help provide as great (if not greater) understanding of some aspect of history than a student might get from more traditional means of pedagogy, such as the Socratic Method (Q & A), directed learning, and so on..
